This is similar to a previous post however in this case it would be using a signal crossing to create a gap in flow sufficient to allow a vehicle, specifically a bus, to turn right against that flow. A bus waiting, but unable to turn right would trigger the crossing further up the road (50m) to change, without a pedestrian being present, so as to allow the bus to turn right. I believe this is doable however what do people think about actually doing it?

Ped x-ings have been used in this way before. In Birmingham I did an entire roundabout controlled by entry peds. I also used a crossing to allow traffic out of a side road for the commonwealth games route network. It works well if care is taken over timings etc. main consideration is to drivers seeing the crossing run without a ped. For the roundabout scheme we used plate signs advising drivers they may operate without peds.

Can be a bit dodgy if drivers get used to the crossing changing without any pedestrians crossing regularly. Although most do tend to stop even when crossings have a PD. I have done several pre-signals at roundabouts, used about 20m back or so to create gaps on the circulatory, no ped facilities. Although TSRGD doesn't like it they are mentioned in TSM Chapter 6.
